A Celebration of City and Spirit
Launched in 2020, the Borneo Half Marathon is held every February in conjunction with Kota Kinabalu City Day,
commemorating the city’s attainment of city status in the year 2000. The event offers runners more than just a race. It is
an immersive journey through the city’s landmarks and along its stunning coastline.
As participants make their way through the heart of the “Nature Resort City”, they experience a perfect blend of bustling
urban life and serene coastal views. Each stride reflects the story of a city that embraces progress while preserving its
natural beauty.
The Heart Behind the Run
The Borneo Half Marathon thrives on collaboration. Behind every edition are the dedicated efforts of the organising
committee, city authorities, partners, sponsors, and an army of volunteers. From the cheering crowds to the seamless
race-day logistics, every detail is a product of teamwork and shared passion.
By joining BHM, runners become part of a tradition that honours Kota Kinabalu’s growth, resilience, and community
spirit. Whether it’s your first race or your fiftieth, you’ll leave with more than a medal — you’ll take home a piece of the
city’s heart.
Running with the World
The Borneo Half Marathon is not only a celebration for locals, but also a meeting point for runners from across Malaysia
and the world. As Kota Kinabalu approaches its 26th anniversary as a city in 2026, the marathon continues to
strengthen ties with its sister cities, welcoming participants from:
- South Korea: Yongin City, Yeosu City
