Volunteer
The Borneo Marathon is the biggest run for charity event in Sabah and has over the last decade, dedicated itself to supporting a number of local charities by raising funds through runner participation. Each year, the marathon hosts thousands of local and international runners who come to Sabah to take part in the marathon, bringing with them their family and friends to cheer them on to the finish line.
Be behind the scenes and the first to see how this iconic marathon takes place by being a volunteer. There are opportunities in various areas including set up, race pack collection, water stations and more!
As a run-up to the Borneo Marathon, a half-marathon called the Borneo Half Marathon will be organised in February 2022.
- Stadium Coordinator

Job description: Stadium CoordinatorDuration: 1 month
- 27 January – 23 February 2020
- 25 May – 21 June 2020
Duties- Liaise with vendors, suppliers and contractors prior to event day
- Coordinate with vendors, suppliers and contractors to set up on event day
- Attend coordination meetings to stay informed of logistics on event day
- Be present throughout event weekend :
- February 22 – 23, 2020 (Borneo Half Marathon)
- June 20 – 21, 2020 (Borneo Marathon)
Special Notes:

Job description: Event Hall CoordinatorDuration:
- February 21 – 23, 2020 (Friday – Sunday)
- June 19 – 21, 2020 (Friday – Sunday)
Duties- Coordinate with vendors to set up at allocated space at event hall
- Coordinate with security personnel to ensure event hall, vendor booths and merchandise, and all items belonging to Borneo Marathon are secure
- Minimise congestion to ensure runners are attended to quickly and efficiently
Special Notes:
The task requires coordination skills and a cool head to deal with unexpected situations particularly during high traffic periods when registration is at its peak. Job description: General volunteer – Race venueDuration:
- Saturday, February 22 (6:00pm) – Sunday, February 23 (12:00 noon)
- Saturday, June 20 (6:00pm) – Sunday, June 21(12:00 noon)
Duties- Set up and serve water and energy food to runners at the conclusion of their race
- Distribute Finisher Medal as runners cross the finish line
- Provide support for runners at the finish line
Special Notes:
Finishers will be tired and some might even need help to cross the finish line. Be there to cheer them on, give them a big thumbs up or just an encouraging smile – how you welcome them back at the finish line will make a whole lot of difference to them!

Job description: General volunteer – Race Pack CollectionDuration:
- Friday, February 21 (9:00am) – Sunday, February 23 (7:00 pm)
- Friday, June 19 (9:00am) – Sunday, June 21(7:00 pm)
Duties- Runner registration
- Organising and handing out event t-shirts and race bibs
- Preparing goodie bags
- Answering questions and providing race information
Special Notes:
You would possibly be the first person from the Borneo Marathon team that runners would meet so roll out the red carpet with a cheerful smile, a friendly greeting and courteous service.
