ABOUT BORNEO HALF MARATHON

Since its inception in 2020, the Borneo Half Marathon has become an annual highlight, held in conjunction with Kota Kinabalu City Day, which commemorates the city’s attainment of city status in February 2000. This event offers participants a unique opportunity to experience Kota Kinabalu’s iconic landmarks and attractions as they traverse a route through the heart of the city. Runners are treated to a scenic journey through one of Malaysia’s most picturesque waterfront cities, known as the “Nature Resort City,” where bustling urban settings seamlessly blend with serene coastal views. The Borneo Half Marathon is designed to be both accessible and enjoyable, immersing participants in Kota Kinabalu’s natural beauty while celebrating the city’s unique charm and captivating character.

ABOUT KINABALU RUNNING CLUB

The Kinabalu Running Club (KRC), based in Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia, is a community-driven organisation dedicated to fitness, unity, and well-being. With a welcoming environment for runners of all levels, KRC promotes healthy lifestyles through safe and inclusive events. Their flagship event, the Borneo International Marathon (BIM), held annually in May, has grown from 529 participants in 2008 to over 10,000, attracting runners worldwide to its scenic routes and unique cultural experience. Similarly, the Borneo Half Marathon (BHM), co-organised with Kota Kinabalu City Hall in February, celebrates Kota Kinabalu City Day with routes that showcase Sabah’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Both races, sanctioned by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), meet global standards, drawing serious athletes and casual participants alike.

Beyond marathons, KRC supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by fostering health, education, and sustainability through partnerships with local NGOs and charities. The club organises fun runs, charity events, and fitness initiatives, raising over RM 1.1 million for 36 charitable organisations while driving community engagement and Sabah’s sports industry. Whether you’re pursuing personal fitness or exploring Sabah’s vibrant culture, KRC offers a platform to connect, inspire, and make a positive impact. Stay updated on events and join the conversation by following KRC on social media, becoming part of the growing community committed to health, camaraderie, and adventure.
